Based in The George Theatre on the college campus, The Academy offers high-level vocational training in dance, drama and music, designed to give aspiring performers the skills and professional experience needed to progress to top conservatoires, drama schools and music institutions across the UK.
Students can choose to study Performing Arts (Level 3 Dance and Drama) or as part of a broader A Level programme, providing flexibility for both dedicated performers and those seeking to combine their passion for the arts with other academic subjects.
With exceptional facilities including a fully equipped theatre, professional box office, drama and dance studios, music practice rooms and a modern recording studio, The Academy provides an authentic industry-standard training environment right in the heart of Southport.
The introduction of The Academy marks the return of high-level performing arts education to Southport, aligning with the region’s growing investment in creative and cultural development, including the exciting plans for the Marine Lake Events Centre (MLEC). The initiative underscores KGV’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of performers and helping to revitalise the town’s vibrant arts community.

As a former professional dancer, it’s incredible to see this level of arts training return to Southport. For too long, talented young performers have felt they needed to leave the town to pursue their passion — now, with The Academy, they can access first-class, industry-standard training right here at KGV. Choice is key to success and this new programme gives our students the choice and opportunity to thrive.
The Academy will take on its first cohort of students in September 2026, offering pathways in Dance, Drama, Musical Theatre, and Music.
