Oxbridge Success at KGV Sixth Form College

We are pleased to announce that KGV student Daniel Tierney has received an offer from the University of Cambridge to study Natural Sciences!

12th February 2026

Daniel joined us in September 2024 from Birkdale High School to study A-Level Chemistry, Physics, Maths, and Further Maths. He was selected as one of our scholars as part of the King’s Scholarship programme, which recognises high-achieving Year 11 applicants who demonstrate exceptional talent and outstanding results in both their academic and extracurricular activities.

Daniel has had a passion for science since his GCSEs, inspiring him to pursue his studies further at university. He has visited the University of Cambridge on multiple occasions, one being a residential trip organised by the KGV Careers Team. Since then, he has received application and interview support, and has been successfully offered a place to study Natural Sciences after an entrance exam and an interview process. What an achievement!

Everybody at the college is incredibly proud of Daniel and we can't wait to see what he achieves in the future. Congratulations!

MP Damien Moore visits King George V College to show his support as colleges call for equality in their funding when compared with other parts of the education sector.

Rugby is Back at KGV

We are delighted to have partnered with Southport Rugby Club to put Rugby firmly back on the agenda at KGV. Many of our students have played rugby competitively at school and are keen to keep this up when they join the college, in addition to their academic programme.

Recent Trips & Visits

Our students recently went on a number of trips and visits including the Northern College of Music, Juniper Press at the Bluecoat and the Senior Maths Challenge.

KGV Alumni Achieves Cambridge Success

Many congratulations to Dan Howard who has recently graduated from Churchill College, University of Cambridge, with a BA Hons Degree in Medicine. This is a truly marvellous achievement and a testament to all the hard work he has put in over the years.
