University of the Arts London, Drama is your chance to discover something new about yourself! Whether you’re destined to be under the bright stage lights, or programming them, our exciting new course offers you the chance to develop your skills. This practical subject provides you with plenty of opportunities to perform and challenge you to create new, exciting work from the ground up. As you hone your performance skills through acting, voice and movement workshops, you will also learn how to create a theatre space, technical theatre skills and how to run a show.

The UAL Drama stands apart from other courses, as you have a lot of control over your learning, allowing you to play to your strengths and find opportunities to develop. You will develop a foundation of knowledge of performing and production, that will inform your studies and future ventures.

You will take part in several productions throughout your time at KGV, beginning with a Christmas show and ending in a Final Major Project, covering every aspect of theatre creation.

What will I study

Are you curious about how drama is made and have a creative instinct for communicating your views? Perhaps you have aspirations of one day working on Broadway or the West End? If so, then Drama and Theatre Studies is for you! This vivid and vibrant course will see you acting, writing and directing and engaging in the visual and technical side of theatre. There are so many different styles of drama, and during this course you will be able to experience how they are all made; and taking regular trips to see professionally produced theatre is one of the most enjoyable ways to do this.

The course involves practical performance; devising and working from scripts; writing about theatre you have seen and plays you have read; and the theory and practice of practitioners, playwrights and directors. You will also practice and develop your drama skills, explore the work of differing practitioners and devise an original piece of drama.

As a KGV Drama student, you will also take part in tours and workshops given by LIPA and Edge Hill University. To further your experience and knowledge, we also invite prestigious theatre companies such as Frantic Assembly and Shared Experience, to come in and provide masterclass sessions in particular areas of drama.

Drama and Theatre Studies can lead to further study in drama, theatre studies and performing arts at degree or HND level or drama school. Former students have gone on to study drama, musical theatre and theatre studies, and have taken up careers in performing, directing and theatre administration. With our strong links, many students gain places at LIPA, Edge Hill University, and the University of Leeds.
