Iceland

A visit to the fascinating island of Iceland by KGV’s A Level Geography students saw them explore tourist attractions and the stunning features of the dramatic landscape, covering both the physical and cultural aspects of their course.

The group of geographers explored Iceland’s primary tourist attractions like the Blue Lagoon, Sun Voyager, the ‘Harpa’ opera house and the impressive Hallgrimskirkja Cathedral before investigating the unique tectonic landscape of Iceland, by visiting the Eyjafjallajökul live volcano. Students were also given the chance to view a selection of stunning waterfalls, a glacial tongue and the black sands of Reynisfjara shore which is renowned for its hexagonal basalt columns.

Theory into practise

The trip to Iceland was a wonderful opportunity for A Level Geography students from KGV to take their learning from the classroom and see stunning geographical surroundings in person. Viewing tectonic features, waterfalls, coastal landforms and a rare opportunity to witness the spectacular Northern Lights enhanced the learning experience of all the students involved.
