ANIMAL MANAGEMENT

The Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Animal Management is a 2 year study programme designed for students interested in a career working with animals, or the wider animal industry

There are eight mandatory units, which cover the following aspects of animal management:

• Animal Breeding and Genetics
• Animal Biology
• Animal Welfare and Ethics
• Practical Animal Husbandry
• Animal Behaviour
• Animal Health and Diseases
• Work Experience in the Animal Sector
• Investigative Research Project

What will I study

A two-year study programme that is ideal for learners looking for a full-time course specialising in the animal management sector, or who want to work in the animal industry or envisage a career in animal occupations or animal techincal roles. The course introduces the skills and knowledge needed to work in the animal management sector.

Learners are offered the opportunity to develop a range of technical skills and attributes expected by employers, as it is expected that learners will apply their learning in relevant employment and sector contexts during delivery and have opportunities to engage meaningfully with employers

Learners will have the opportunity to work with different types of animals, from small to large domesticated and exotic animals, in order to prepare them for working in sector specialst areas.

5 GCSEs at grades 9 - 4 and or including, English and Maths and Science

Career advice

Animal Officers/Inspectors investigate complaints about animal cruelty, rescue animals and give advice to animal owners.

Annual Salary:
£19,250-£30,000

Responsible for the daily operations of the business and for the care of animals kept under their supervision. They must ensure all that all animals are properly cared for.

Annual Salary:
£20,000-£25,000

You could work in an animal breeding, educational centre or research organisation undertaking a range of tasks including feeding the animals, monitoring their weight and growth and carrying out regular health checks.

Annual Salary:
£18,000-£28,000
