What will I study

Studying A Level Physical Education will give you a fantastic insight into the amazing world of sports performance. Not only will you have the chance to perform or coach a sport through the non-exam assessment component, you will also develop a wide ranging knowledge into the how and why of Physical activity and sport.

The combination of physical performance and academic challenge provides an exciting opportunity for students. You can perform, and then through academic study improve your performance or coaching though application of the theory. You will learn the reasons why we do things, why some people out perform others, mentally and physically. You will also delve into the ethical considerations behind the use of drugs and also the influence that modern technology is having in and on physical activity and sport.

Many Physical Education students progress onto university to study the subject further and the college has close links with local universities including Edge Hill and John Moores. Previous students have attended some of the top sporting universities including Loughborough or Bath and others have been successful in gaining places to study their degree at Wembley. Student have gone onto study courses including Sports Therapy, Physiotherapy, Sports Science, Sports Coaching and Biomechanics.

Entry Requirements

Standard

5 GCSEs at grades 9 - 5 and or including, English Language and Maths at grade 4 or above.

Course specific

You will need a grade 4 or above in any Science GCSE.

You can study 3 a levels or a combination of 2 a levels and 1 btec subsidiary (a level equivalent).
