BUSINESS
BTEC A Level Equivalent

Our BTEC Extended Certificate in Business is equivalent to one A level and consists of 4 units.

Our popular business course provides students with the opportunity to study key aspects of business organisations and the environment in which they operate. The course aims to develop creative and analytical thinking through activities such as investigating businesses and markets, proposing developments to products and analysing financial statements and forecasts. As a BTEC Business student you will apply your learning to everyday current situations, developing your research techniques and IT skills. Due to the great flexibility in the subject, students go on to a wide range of pathways following completion of the course, including progressing to university.

The 3 core units are Exploring Business, Developing Marketing, and Personal and Business Finance. Our optional unit is one selected from Recruitment and Selection, Investigating Customer Service, Market Research, Work Experience in Business or the The English Legal System.

In year one, you will be assessed by completing one coursework unit and one controlled assessment unit. In year two, the assessments are one examination unit and one further coursework unit.

Why choose Business at KGV

We use real business case studies for each assignment and current world events are applied, discussed and debated. The course tutors have many years of teaching experience and have all worked in business environments which means they can give real insight in to the world of business. Trips are built in to the study programme so that you can experience companies first hand such as Jaguar Land Rover and visit places like Liverpool One. We also invite regular guest speakers who provide an insight into their own business activities and help demonstrate the career paths that could be available following on from college or university. Our classrooms have first-class IT facilities and we use a variety of technologies to support your learning, engage you in lessons and to enable you to produce and submit your assignments.

We are very proud of the destinations our previous Business students have progressed on to. A high proportion have gone on to study Business, Finance, Marketing, and International Business Management at prestigious Russell Group universities such as the University of Liverpool and King’s College London.
