BTEC EXTENDED DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS AT KGV
The course covers a broad range of business topics, from the fundamentals to recent topics such as internet marketing. The course comprises of thirteen units – seven mandatory and six optional – that are designed to give flexibility to meet student’s needs. As a BTEC Business student, you will apply your learning to current real-life examples to demonstrate your understanding and, more importantly, to develop your critical thinking skills enabling you to accurately evaluate and analyse information. Due to the great flexibility in the course, students’ progress on to a wide range of courses and careers following completion of the course – over 70% of students go on to university with over 20% going into employment.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
BTEC Business students benefit from the flexibility of the course that allows us to include fundamental business topics such as marketing, human resource management and finance. In addition, we are able to select units that broaden students' understanding and ability, for example retail, digital marketing and starting a small business.
Minimum of 5 x Grade 4 (3 from GCSEs) including Grade 4 in Maths or English or Merit in BTEC Level 2 Diploma in a related subject with a Grade 4 in Maths or English.
WHAT MAKES A GOOD BUSINESS STUDENT?
A strong BTEC Business student will be inquisitive and eager to advance their critical thinking skills, in order to effectively develop evaluation and analysis skills as the course progresses. Students will also develop strong time management skills, which will allow them to prioritise their workload to meet the demands of completing the thirteen units of the course.
GET OUT THERE!
There are a wide range of trips and visits available to students to support their learning, including a residential trip to London, where you will visit multiple organisations of different size and industry, an adventure day at ‘Rock n River’ to develop team work skills, a visit to Jaguar Land Rover (Halewood) to understand manufacturing methods and Alton Towers for investigating marketing practices. We are also very fortunate to be supported by a number of guest speakers, who have real life business experience that students are able to apply to their current learning.
Due to the breadth of topics within the qualification our students progress into a wide array of opportunities. These opportunities range from fashion retail, international engineering organisations, management positions within mulit national organisations.
