PHYSICAL EDUCATION AT KING GEORGE V COLLEGE
Sport is one of the fastest growing industries. Elite level sports performers now have a whole team of specialists working behind the scenes to ensure that players are in peak physical and psychological condition. The combination of physical performance and academic challenge on the A Level Physical Education course, provides an exciting opportunity for you to fully immerse yourself in the world of sports and PE.
Throughout the two year course you will study a multitude of engaging topics including: applied anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, biomechanical movement, sport psychology and the role of technology in physical activity and sport.
You will also have the opportunity ‘get qualified’ by completing industry recognised courses in coaching, officiating and leadership. You will gain work-experience through the delivery of the college enrichment activities and have the opportunity to complete a coaching placement at a local primary school.
The course at KGV College offers students the flexibility to be assessed in any sport of your choice, and does not restrict the practical component to a few sports. As a result of this, students get to focus on their sporting specialism allowing you to achieve the best possible grades.
Past students have continued to study the subject in greater depth at university with Sports Science, Teaching, Physiotherapy, Sports Therapy and Sports Psychology being popular course choices.
5 GCSEs at grades 9-5 (A*-B) including English Language and a 4 or above (Grade C) in GCSE Maths. For PE you will need a Grade 4 in any Science subject.
King George V College’s Sports Academy is an opportunity for student athletes to become a Sports Scholar and specialise in one of the following sports: football, netball, badminton or rugby.
By being a Sports Scholar, you’ll receive benefits such as top training sessions with sports professionals from the likes of Southport Football Club, RFU and England Netball, a personalised strength and conditioning programme incorporated into your individual study programme and subsidised kit.
Each year the college enters the Association of College Sports leagues, cups and tournaments. Elite performers can qualify and represent the college at National Finals, held over a weekend at a prestigious university.
PE students have the opportunity to learn in a new state-of-the-art building. Each classroom is kitted out with interactive whiteboards and computers. Students can also enjoy the use of extensive sports fields, a free fitness suite and sports hall.
