King George V College

Sport is one of the fastest growing industries. Elite level sports performers now have a whole team of specialists working behind the scenes to ensure that players are in peak physical and psychological condition. The combination of physical performance and academic challenge of the course, provides an exciting opportunity for you to fully immerse yourself in the world of sports and PE.

As a PE student at KGV, you will have access to our new Sports Academy and each year the College enters the Association of College Sports leagues, cups and tournaments. Elite performers can qualify and represent the college at National Finals, held over a weekend at a prestigious university. You will also have the opportunity ‘get qualified’ with industry recognised coaching, officiating and leadership courses.

The course is 70% theory and therefore requires you to be self-motivated and display a keen interest in both scientific and psychological factors that can affect performers. You will study a variety of theory topics including applied anatomy and physiology, sport psychology, biomechanical movement and sport and society

You will be practically assessed in either your coaching ability or your sport performance and will be expected to be competing at a high standard regularly.

An A Level in PE allows students to progress on to a wide variety of sports related career paths. Many of our students progress onto University and study degrees in Sports Therapy, Physiotherapy, Teaching and Coaching at some of the most prestigious universities across the country including Loughborough University and the University of Bath. Other popular options are Sports Psychology and Sports Coaching careers.
