ROUTES TO KGV

ADVANCED LEVEL PROGRAMMES:
Choosing your next step can be a daunting task, especially when there are so many courses to choose from! The nature of post 16 provision is constantly evolving and KGV is happy to be at the heart of those changes. Alongside the traditional Advanced level programmes we also offer a variety of different routes to success that guarantee something for everyone!
It is important to look at all the information and get lots of advice in order to make the right decisions for you. Come along to one of our Open Evenings or taster days to get a flavour of life at KGV but also make use of the resources at your own school such as Careers advisors and teachers who know you well and will be able to help you make informed choices.
We offer two types of Advanced Level programmes which last 2 years:
- A Level
- BTEC Extended Diploma
If you are looking for a more practical course this might be the programme for you! The BTEC is designed to offer students the chance to learn subject specific skills which could put you on the path towards a career in your chosen specialism. BTEC students follow an intensive programme of study which is divided into modules taught over one year (BTEC Level 2 Diploma) and two years (BTEC Extended Diploma). Unlike Advanced level courses there are no exams and the course is continually assessed through coursework.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- A Level: in order to guarantee entry to a full programme (4 AS Levels or equivalent) a student must normally achieve at least 5 A* - B grades at GCSE (at least 4 must be from GCSEs).
- BTEC Extended Diploma: in order to guarantee a place students must achieve 5 GCSEs at grades A*- C including English Language or Mathematics OR achieve a Merit in a relevant BTEC Level 2 Diploma and a C in GCSE English Language or Mathematics OR achieve at least a C grade in a Higher Diploma
If you don’t get the grades you need to guarantee a place on your chosen courses you may still be offered a place via our clearing process. This means that a senior member of staff will discuss your options with you and consider the type of programme that is right for you. You may need to re-negotiate your course choices in order to adopt an individual learning plan that is tailored to your skills and needs.
