King George V College
OUR SHARED VISION

King George V and Southport College, are working towards an exciting union of Southport’s two leading further education institutions. The anticipated partnership will ensure that an attractive and competitive post 16 curriculum offer is available to all students living in Southport and the surrounding area.

John Clarke, Principal of Southport College, said “Between the two sites we have a substantial curriculum offering and our vision is to be recognised locally as the first choice for higher level academic and vocational courses.

“This year’s advanced level results place KGV College and Southport College amongst the top performing colleges in the country. We believe that with the quality of education and support we offer there should be no reason for students to look outside of the Southport area when considering their post 16 options.”

Anne-Marie Francis, Acting Principal at King George V College, added “Each and every year our students gain qualifications that allow them to progress on to exciting and aspirational destinations.

"Our previous students have studied at universities across the world and many have successful careers as accountants, doctors, commercial pilots, engineers, entrepreneurs, lawyers, successful business owners and more.

“It is the quality of provision that students access here in Southport that prepares them for these future endeavours and most importantly ensures they are successful in their chosen career path.”

The partnership will also see new investment in Centres of Excellence across both existing College sites, starting with a Centre of Excellence in Science launching this month.

Anne-Marie said “We are well-equipped to become a Centre of Excellence for the Sciences. We have fully refurbished state of the art science laboratories and specialist teaching staff delivering our science provision, with successful students progressing on to a wealth of science related careers.

“This summer, our Science students progressed on to study courses including Biological Sciences, Medicine, Law and Forensics at a range of prestigious universities including Oxford, Cambridge and University of Liverpool.”
